In brief: Original, PRO, and Eclipse have a handle set noticeably above the blade; Basic has a more classic design. Choose the shape and grip first, then the length and finish. Eclipse is not synonymous with Black Diamond, and a shorter PRO is not automatically the lightest option.

Knife shape, grip, and length are three separate choices
Original and PRO have a finger-resting notch in the grip, while Eclipse is shaped for a pinch grip. Basic is held more like a classic kitchen knife. Height, width, and weight distribution all matter for control, alongside length.
Therefore, a shorter length does not automatically mean a lower weight or suitability for every smaller hand. If you have the opportunity to try it in person, check whether the grip lets you guide the blade without gripping it too tightly. More about SARACEN’s design and grip.
Standard versus Black Diamond
The DLC coating is a surface option on selected Original and Eclipse variants. It does not turn the Eclipse model into a different knife shape and is not the reason for the difference between Eclipse and Original. Steel, geometry, and sharpening need to be evaluated separately.
What is documented about the coating and what cannot be inferred from its name is explained in the DLC and Black Diamond guide.

When not to choose one of these knives
If you are looking for a knife for chopping bones, frozen foods, or prying, compare specialized tools. If you want to put your knife in the dishwasher, that does not align with the recommended care for SARACEN. And if the significantly offset handle does not feel right to you, choosing a different suitable shape makes more sense than buying from the top product line.
Next steps: choosing a kitchen knife, sharpening, and storage.
Frequently asked questions
Is PRO only available in a 175 mm length?
No. The currently loaded selection also includes 218 mm.
Is Eclipse always black?
No. Standard and Black Diamond variants are available, with different lengths offered.
Does a higher HRC guarantee a better choice?
No. The hardness ranges of the product lines also overlap; the overall construction and suitability for your work are what matter.
