Full description
SARACEN® Eclipse is based on the same concept as the entire SARACEN® range, whose design is protected by patent offices as an industrial design valid worldwide: the handle and center of gravity are shifted to the middle of the knife, rather than behind the handle as with classic knives. This means you apply pressure to the blade perpendicularly instead of at an angle, so you cut more precisely and with less effort. The Eclipse range adds elegant, lightweight construction and a differently shaped handle designed for a pinch grip with fingers directly on the blade - a style preferred by cooks accustomed to the so-called pinch grip. The razor-sharp, saber-shaped blade is forged from premium Damascus steel.
The SARACEN® concept was designed by Czech engineers: the shifted center of gravity, handle shape, and blade curvature are the result of Czech development, not a copy of an established knife design. The Eclipse blade is forged from premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, giving it its distinctive wavy pattern and a good balance of hardness and toughness. The edge stays sharp longer, but Damascus steel generally requires a little more careful handling than ordinary stainless steel.
Why SARACEN® Eclipse?
- Original Czech concept, not a licensed copy of an established design
- Design protected as an industrial design, with the center of gravity shifted to the middle of the knife, helping you cut more precisely and with less effort
- Elegant, lightweight construction for quick cutting with less strain on your hand
- Handle designed for a pinch grip with fingers directly on the blade
- Razor-sharp, saber-shaped blade made from premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, 60 ± 2 HRC hardness
- 20° edge angle, so it stays sharp for a long time and is easy to resharpen
Standard or Black Diamond?
Standard lets the natural pattern of Damascus steel stand out. Black Diamond also features a finish treated with DLC (diamond like carbon) technology, which increases hardness, reduces cutting friction, and gives the blade a dark, almost black sheen.
How is Eclipse different from the standard SARACEN® range?
What blade length is right for you?
- 220 mm: the lightest and most nimble option for quick everyday cutting.
- 240 mm: an elegant, balanced knife for a smooth, single-stroke cut.
- 269 mm: the longest version, with a wide, lightweight blade that handles even larger quantities of food with ease.
Frequently asked questions
What is protected on the SARACEN® Eclipse knife?
As with the entire SARACEN® range, the balance point is shifted toward the center of the knife, rather than behind the handle as with traditional knives. The design is protected worldwide by patent offices as an industrial design. This allows you to apply pressure straight down onto the blade instead of at an angle, so you can cut more precisely and with less effort.
How do you hold the SARACEN® Eclipse knife?
The Eclipse handle is designed for a pinch grip, where you hold the blade directly near the bolster with your fingers—a popular style among chefs who want maximum control over the knife tip. This differs from the rest of the SARACEN® range, where gripping the handle’s hook is recommended.
How does the Eclipse handle differ from the rest of the SARACEN® range?
Eclipse has a differently shaped handle designed for a pinch grip, with your fingers on the blade, rather than gripping the handle’s hook as with SARACEN® or PRO. This complements the lightweight construction and the quick, precise cutting style this range is designed for.
What is the difference between SARACEN® and SARACEN® Eclipse?
Compared to the base range, the SARACEN® Eclipse has a lighter overall construction and a differently shaped handle for a pinch grip. It is designed for quick, effortless cutting, while the standard SARACEN® prioritizes a more stable, balanced stroke. The blade lengths also differ: 220/245/265 mm for SARACEN® and 220/240/269 mm for Eclipse.
What is the difference between Standard and Black Diamond?
Standard showcases the natural pattern of Damascus steel. Black Diamond also has a DLC coating that increases hardness, reduces friction while cutting, and gives the blade a dark, almost black sheen.
Which SARACEN® Eclipse blade length should you choose?
220 mm is the lightest and most nimble option for quick everyday cutting. 240 mm is an elegant, balanced choice for a smooth, single-stroke cut. 269 mm handles even larger quantities of food with ease.
What is the SARACEN® Eclipse blade made of?
Made from premium Damascus steel, with 67 layers, a hardness of 60 ± 2 HRC, and a 20° blade angle. This combination keeps the edge sharp for a long time and is also easy to sharpen.
How do you care for the SARACEN® Eclipse knife?
Wash it by hand only and dry it immediately afterward with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher or expose it to harsh cleaning products or acids, as Damascus steel is more sensitive than standard stainless steel.
The SARACEN® Eclipse knife is designed in Czechia so that its lightweight construction, handle shape, and balance work together for fast, precise cutting—not as separate features in a product description. You’ll notice it in your hand within the first minute of use.
