Full description
SARACEN® PRO is based on the same concept as the entire SARACEN® range, whose design is protected by patent offices as a globally valid industrial design: the handle and center of gravity are shifted toward the middle of the knife, so you apply pressure vertically rather than at an angle and cut more precisely with less effort. Popular with professional chefs for its wider and taller blade, designed for a combination of slicing and chopping larger quantities of ingredients - vegetables and meat. The slightly saber-shaped, razor-sharp blade made of premium Damascus steel also easily scoops sliced ingredients straight off the cutting board.
The SARACEN® concept was designed by Czech engineers: the shifted center of gravity, handle shape, and blade curvature are the result of Czech development, not a copy of an established knife design. The PRO blade is forged from premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, giving it a distinctive wavy pattern and a good balance of hardness and toughness. This means the edge stays sharp longer, but Damascus steel generally requires slightly more careful handling than standard stainless steel.
Why SARACEN® PRO?
- Original Czech concept, not a licensed copy of an established design
- Design protected as an industrial design, with a forward-shifted center of gravity that lets you cut more precisely and with less effort
- Wider and taller blade, popular with professional chefs for slicing and chopping larger quantities of ingredients
- Slightly saber-shaped blade, razor-sharp, easily scoops sliced ingredients off the cutting board
- Blade made of premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, hardness 60 ± 2 HRC
- 20° edge angle, so it stays sharp for a long time and is easy to sharpen
How does PRO differ from the basic SARACEN® range?
Which blade length should I choose?
- 175 mm: a more compact option; the tall blade makes it easy to scoop ingredients off the cutting board and also suits smaller hands.
- 218 mm: a longer stroke and faster cutting, with a more robust balance for a secure grip during extended use.
Frequently asked questions
What is protected on the SARACEN® PRO knife?
As with the entire SARACEN® range, the center of gravity is shifted to the center of the knife instead of being behind the handle. The design is protected worldwide by patent offices as an industrial design. This lets you apply pressure perpendicularly to the blade rather than at an angle, so you can cut more precisely and with less effort.
Why does the SARACEN® PRO have a wider blade?
The wider, taller blade makes it easier to both slice and chop larger quantities of ingredients, including vegetables and meat. Its slight saber-like curve also makes it easy to scoop sliced ingredients straight off the cutting board. That’s why it’s popular with professional chefs.
What is the difference between SARACEN® and SARACEN® PRO?
The SARACEN® PRO has a wider, taller blade designed for both slicing and chopping, while the standard SARACEN® range is slimmer and geared more toward precise slicing. The PRO range is currently available only in the Standard finish, with no Black Diamond option.
Which SARACEN® PRO blade length should I choose?
175 mm is the more compact option, with a tall blade that makes it easy to scoop ingredients off the cutting board - it also suits smaller hands. 218 mm offers a longer stroke, faster cutting, and a more robust balance for larger portions.
What is the SARACEN® PRO blade made of?
Made from premium Damascus steel, with 67 layers, a hardness of 60 ± 2 HRC, and a 20° edge angle. This combination keeps the edge sharp for a long time and is also easy to sharpen.
How should I care for the SARACEN® PRO knife?
Wash it by hand only and dry it immediately with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher or expose it to harsh cleaning products or acids, as Damascus steel is more sensitive than ordinary stainless steel.
The SARACEN® PRO knife is designed in the Czech Republic so its wider blade, center of gravity, and handle shape work together when slicing, chopping, and scooping ingredients, rather than being separate features in a product description. You’ll notice it within the first minute of use.
